Fairfax County, Va. Firefighters Handle Apartment Blaze

The gas company showed up 20 - 30 min after the inital call and shut down the line allowing personnel to finish the knock on the fire.

At about 6 p.m. Dec. 30, an alarm was struck for a crash involving a gas line in the Tysons Corner area of Fairfax County. Witnesses stated that a small car had jumped the curb and struck the gas meter located on the side of the three-story apartment complex.

First arriving units from Fairfax Fire & Rescue Company 429 found that the vapors had built up under the leaves of the balcony and exploded.

They called for a second alarm which was dispatched at approx 6:10 p.m. They placed two major lines in service keeping the fire under control and protecting the rest of the units that were not involved.

The crash caused approx $200,000 in damages.
