On April 29,2004 Buffalo, New York sixth battalion, first platoon units were kept busy with a stubborn fire at 1971 Clinton Street.
At 13:06 hours Engines 35, 28, 22 Trucks 10, 5 and 14 the Rescue and B-46 were dispatched under the command of B-56 DC McFeely. Truck 15, who was returning from the shop became available and were placed on the run.
Engine 35 arrived with very heavy fire showing in the rear of an occupied 2.5 story frame.
An interior attack was started, but crews were withdrawn as the fire grew due to high winds. An additional Engine (19) and Truck (13) were dispatched about 25 minutes into the fire. A turret and 6 handlines were operating at the height of the fire.
Crews brought the fire under control at 13:56. Heavy overhaul ensued including stripping the entire roof and hooking the second floor to check for extension. Crews were able to keep damage to the exposure to $2,500, however, the fire building suffered $90,000 damage.
The Red Cross was brought in to help the displaced occupants.
