F/F's from Rahway N.J. battled a stubborn attic fire at 288 Elm Ave. on April 10th. at 2:15am.
Upon arrival of the B/C, heavy smoke was showing from the entire attic area. The B/C transmitted a working fire and called for off duty personnel as well as mutual aid, including an urgent call for a pumper from Linden N.J. to stand by as the FAST Team.
First in companies mounted an aggressive interior attack, but were unable to make the attic due to the extreme heat condition. Before the truck's outside vent team could open up for the advancing lines, the fire burned through a portion of the roof. At the same time parts of the 2nd floor ceilings were starting to collapse.
Evacuation tones were sounded and all crews were pulled out of the structure. Master streams were used for the next couple of hours.
There were no injuries. Clark and Garwood provided the mutual aid
