Shortly after midnight on April 20, 2004 the City of Newburgh Fire Department was alerted for a structure fire on William St near Liberty St. Duty Chief (Car-4) advised immediately that he had a working fire and transmitted a 2nd alarm. As companies laid lines and began their attack it was realized that there was very little water pressure, which initially hampered efforts.
Command also advised that he had 2 buildings involved with several very serious exposure problems, including a large church. Approx 20 mins into the fire, the building of origin totally collapsed, and about 45 mins into the fire, a building up the street was also discovered to be burning, probably caused by the heavy ember showers.
Assisting the City of Newburgh at the scene were units from Cronomer Valley, Good Will, Cornwall and New Windsor with Coldenham & Orange Lake standing by at Newburgh Central Station. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
