On Oct. 8 at 10:45 a.m. Wicomico County, Md. Central alerted Stations 5 (Hebron), 16 (Salisbury) and 74 (Delmar) for a residential structure fire at 7570 Wolf Road.
Engine 16 was first arriving, reporting a working fire in a two-story private dwelling, and immediately pulled a 1 3/4-inch line to begin the fire attack.
They immediately requested Delmarva Power and Light for a downed power line on the structure. During the initial attack, Engine 16 ran out of tank water prior to the arrival of a tanker.
Hebron Engine/Tanker 5 arrived on the scene and laid out approximately 300-feet of 5 inch supply line. Crews then began running a supply line to Engine 16 as well as pulling a second 1 3/4-inch hoseline to the rear of the structure. Once water was available crews once again started suppression efforts. Rescue 16 arrived and was directed by Command to split their crew; half to perform ventilation duties; and half to stretch a third line.
Command requested an extra tanker from Station 9 (Mardela), and a standby crew at Station 5 by Station 14 (Sharptown). Shortly afterwards, Command requested another tanker from Station 74 and that the transfer Engine from Station 14 respond to the scene. Station 12 (Westside) was then alerted to standby at Station 5. Due to fire conditions and structural integrity,
Command advised all personnel to evacuate the structure, where they operated on the defensive. 45 minutes into the operation the electric company arrived and was able to cut the power to the downed line. The crews from Engine 1-1 and Engine 1404 were requested to the scene to assist with overhaul.
At 11:46 a.m., Command notified Central that the situation was under control and units were to remain on scene indefinitely for extensive overhaul. At approximately 12:45 p.m. some were cleared and allowed to return to their stations. Command was terminated at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Damages are being estimated at $225,000.
