On Wednesday, Sept. 10 at approximately 2 p.m., Branford, Conn. 9-1-1 received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at a vacant home located across from 348 West Main St.
Firefighters arrived to find the rear of the home fully involved. Fire was extending to the second floor and attic. Due to heavy fire conditions, long vacancy and the age of the building, the incident commander ordered an exterior attack.
Firefighters positioned a two-inch line to the rear attacking the main body of fire while a deck gun was utilized in the front to check fire on the second floor and attic. According to local police, a homeless man was known to live in the building.
The fire was quickly knocked. Once a Rapid Intervention Team arrived from neighboring Guilford, firefighters entered the building to conduct a search and perform overhaul. The building was confirmed to be unoccupied. The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is under investigation.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated and released at a local clinic.
