An alarm clock set for 5 a.m. in the early morning of Sunday, Aug. 10, woke a woman up to the sight and smell of smoke.
The one-story wood-framed house, located in the northeast side of Houston, Texas was on fire when she awoke. She and her sister-in-law were able to barely escape unharmed and called 911.
The home was fully involved by the time the first engine arrived. The territory is just right outside the Houston city limits, and six different volunteer companies were called to the incident. Westfield, Eastex, Aldine, Northeast, Spring, and Little York joined in the mutual-aid fight.
Fire crews worked all through the morning past the sunrise to bring the fire under control.
No other neighborhood structures were affected and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.
