In the early evening of June 3, a fire broke out in a rubber product factory in Franklin Park, Ill.. The 100 X 75 one-story factory was the second in a row of five factories.
As the Franklin Park Fire Department arrived, they found that they were faced with very low water pressure and called at once for a 2-11 alarm. It did not take long for the fire to burn through the factory and the roof, sending a plume of smoke a mile high.
As the fire began to spread to factories on each side of it, the alarms were placed for a 3-11 alarm, then a 4-11 alarm and a 5-11 alarm, plus a hazmat box and a EMS plan one.
Once the fire department got the water problem corrected, they were able to get the fire under control in about a hour.
No one was hurt, but the damage was heavy.
