On Wednesday, May 28th firefighters from Union Colony Fire/Rescue Authority, in Greeley, Colo. utilized the storm sewer drainage system of the west Greeley Wal-Mart Store parking lot to conduct confined space entry and rescue training.
Firefighters utilized several access points to the subterranean storm water drainage system in the Wal-Mart parking lot to simulate entry into a confined space.
Firefighters were tasked with a rescue situation that entailed locating the "victim", who was unconscious, from the sewers and then placing the "victim" on a rescue stretcher, dragging the device to an access point, then hoisting the"victim" approximately 15 feet up to, and out of, a manhole using technical rescue equipment.
The training's objective was to familiarize crews with the specialized equipment and prepare them for confined space rescue calls to which they may respond.
