Oklahoma Firefighters Respond to Blaze

May 13, 2008
Before firefighters could stop the fire, the house was a total loss.

Guymon, Okla. firefighters were called to a confirmed car fire inside of a garage.

While firefighters were en route, large black plumes of smoke were visible. When firefighters arrived, they found a large home fully involved in fire on the north side and was being driven by a strong northerly wind. Before firefighters could stop the fire, the house was a total loss.

It was determined early on in the incident that all residents were out and the attack was turned to defensive only. This choice was made, because the house was in the county with no established water supply. We had to start a tanker shuttle and still ran out of water numerous times. GFD responded with Engine 1, Engine 2, Rescue 1, 2 command units and Medic 2 with 26 firefighters. GFD remained on scene battling this fire for over 4 hours.

Luckily for GFD neighbors saw the fire and immediately went to the assistance of the elderly couple. The elderly couple had no clue there was a fire and would not have made it out.
