At approximately 10:25pm on September 8, Shelton Fire Companies 4, 1, and 3 were dispatched to 33 Belmont Avenue for a working structure fire. The first officer on scene from Company 4 reported heavy smoke showing from the occupied structure.

All occupants were reported to have escaped the home. Soon, heavy fire was showing from the B-side basement windows, as well as the basement door that emptied into the garage. Engine 44 then pulled up on scene stretching a 2 ½" line to the opened garage door to attack the fire emanating from the basement door into the garage. Engine 2 pulled up almost simultaneously and stretched a 2 ½" line to the first floor rear.

They could not gain access to the front door from where they stretched in because of a downed power line that was arching violently on the front lawn. The fire was quickly knocked down due to the two 2 ½" lines that were operating on the scene.
