Firefighters found one person while searching a house fire in in Gloversville on March 20. He later died from his injuries.
Gloversville firefighters arrived at 34 Fifth Avenue shortly after 9:00 p.m. to find heavy fire showing from two windows on the first floor and heavy smoke from the second floor and attic. Crews were told that everyone had exited the home.
Firefighters entered the residence and commenced interior suppression and searched for any possible victims. During that time, firefighters found one adult and removed him to awaiting ambulance crews.
Three battalions from the Gloversville Fire Department as well as three personnel from the Johnstown Fire Department responded to the fire.
The victim who firefighters rescued succumbed to his injures at the hospital. Another adult, who was outside of the residence upon firefighters arrival, had received injures during the fire and was transported to the hospital by the Ambulance Service.
National Grid was summoned to the scene to remove live power lines that had burned away from the structure and fell onto the street.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gloversville Fire Department, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and the Gloversville Police Department.
