It was a busy day for Portland Fire & Rescue firefighters as they responded to three fires responded to two fires at the same home about 12 hours apart on July 8.
At 5:15 a.m. units responded to report of a house fire at 10923 NE Fremont St.
When Ladder Truck 2 arrived they found heavy fire and smoke visible from the 1 1/2-story house. Initially an interior fire attack was attempted by the first arriving crews but those crews were forced to drop back due to the hazardous fire conditions.
A defensive fire attack continued while crews also evacuated nearby homes that were close enough to be in danger of spread from the primary home.
Along with large fire and smoke volume, a downed power line also created issues for the crews.
Another residential fire was dispatched at 4205 SE 26th Avenue at 5:44 a.m. This fire appeared to have started in the attic of a two-story home.
When crews arrived they found smoke issuing from roof vents and immediately sent teams in with hoselines and entry tools.
Once inside the home crews cut into ceilings and walls to expose the fire that had, most likely, originated from an electrical issue.
The quick discovery and extinguishment allowed firefighters to contain this fire to the attic. One resident and two dogs were displaced until repairs can be made. No injuries reported.
Crews returned to the scene on Fremont at 4:53 p.m. when a fire was reported in the attic of the home.
Minutes into the call an "emergency alert" was activated by the incident commander to notify the on-scene crews that, due to the heavy fire exposure the roof, the residence was beginning to sag, indicating imminent collapse.
The fire was placed under control at 5:23 p.m.
Crews remained on-scene for over another hour to finish mop up and assist the investigation team with determining a cause.
