A defensive attack was used to control a fire that ripped through a row of taxpayers in Chicago on Aug. 17.
At 5:46 A.M. the Englewood Fire Alarm Office sent out a still alarm consisting of Engines 88, 123 Tower Ladder 39, Ladder 52, Heavy Rescue 5\5a, Battalion 19. As additional calls were recieved, the assignment was upgraded with the assignment of Ladder 41, Command Van 273, Battalion Chief 20, Ambulances 21, 8, and EMS Field Officer 455.
First due Engine 88 reported smoke showing from a one-story strip mall with four storefronts.
When Battalion 19 arrived he requested a box alarm consisting of Engines 65, 34, Tower Ladder 54, Deputy District Chief 225, Battalion Chiefs 16, 14 and Ambulance 49.
While an interior attack was being waged the fire extended into the attic.
At that time Battalion 19 ordered everybody for an exterior attack.
Deputy District Chief 225 pulled a 2-11 alarm consisting of Engines 116, 39, 99, 101, 49, 28 Ladders 18, 59, 8, Rehab 571, Catholic Chaplain 411, Battalion Chiefs 18, 15, 4, Air 644 EMS District Chief 4412, Arson 465 Light Wagon 915, Comissioner 213.
For nearly six hours, the fire was fought from the outside utilizing two tower ladders, one snorkel and many hoselines.
