Eight companies from Detroit and Hamtrack responded to the fire.

Detroit and Hamtrack firefighters battled a blaze that destroyed a large commercial building in Detroit.

Engine 41 reported heavy fire from a two-story, 200-by-600-foot vacant building at Van Dyke and Harper, around 5:15 p.m.

They requested a tower ladder to the scene as companies set up for a defensive attack.

Two hours after crews arrived, they requested two relief companies. 

Companies that responded include: Detroit Engines 41, 46, 25, 9, Ladders 14 and 6, Squad 3, Battalion 6, Senior Chief 203 and EMS 1104, along with Hamtrack Engine 1.
