Dec. 23--The Dothan Fire Department responded to two fires Thursday afternoon, saving the life of a 100-year-old man caught inside a burning Burdeshaw Street residence.

Dothan Fire Capt. Chris Ethridge said the first fire occurred around 1:18 p.m. in the 700 block of East Burdeshaw Street. Dothan firefighters responded to the blaze and found the residence engulfed in smoke and flames. The fire department had been advised that person was inside the home and entered the residence to rescue him.

Ethridge said the resident, a 100-year-old male, suffered from smoke inhalation, but is recuperating at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Ethridge did not have the man's name available for release, and the fire remains under investigation.

The second fire happened around 1:35 p.m. on the 2200 block of Glen Haven Drive. Ethridge said firefighters' ability to deal with the fire was delayed by problems in cutting power to the home, but after the electricity was turned off they quickly got the fire under control.

Ethridge said the Glen Haven fire also remains under investigation. No one was home at the time of the fire.
