Liquid Propane Gas Sparked Coffee Truck Explosion, Winston-Salem, NC, Fire Says
An explosion Wednesday inside a coffee food truck was caused by a liquid propane gas leak, which was unintentionally ignited by operating equipment inside the vehicle, authorities said Friday.
Four people were injured in the incident at Joel Coliseum when the vehicle exploded before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Tabetha Childress, a spokeswoman for the Winston-Salem Fire Department, released the cause of the explosion.
The fire department hasn’t identified the victims.
The truck from Given Coffee was at the coliseum as part of move-in day for Wake Forest University.
All four were employees of the food truck, Childress said. The employees were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
A group of 31 city firefighters responded to put out the fire from the explosion, Childress said.
