State and federal agents today are still investigating a fire that is believed to have caused at least $1 million damage at a chemical storage site in Ottawa, Kan.

The fire at the Ottawa Co-Op building at 120 N. Cedar St. was reported about 10:55 p.m. Saturday. It took about four hours for firefighters to bring it under control. No one was hurt, but the building's owners told investigators that the blaze caused about $1 million to $3 million of damage, depending on how much equipment and farm chemical products they will be able to save when they can go back into the building.

The building is used mostly to store chemicals such as insecticides and pesticides, fire officials said.

The state fire marshal's office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating the blaze, but officials would not say this morning what they believe started the fire.
