FL Firefighters Extricate Child Trapped in Sewer Pipe

Dec. 7, 2021
A child playing at a construction site in Fort Myers required extrication efforts after getting stuck in a concrete sewer pipe.

A Fort Myers child needed to be rescued after getting stuck in a concrete sewer pipe Monday night.

Firefighters from South Trail Fire Protection District received a call for a child trapped in a concrete sewer pipe in a construction site. The child slipped, got his foot trapped and was unable to remove it.

Fire crews tried multiple options to free the child including water and lubricant without success, according to a Facebook post by South Trail Fire Protection District.

Due to the complexity of the incident, resources were summoned from surrounding agencies including members of Florida USAR Task Force 6 who were already on duty.

After evaluation it was determined the best way to free the child was to purposefully chisel and remove pieces of concrete.

The child was safely extricated and turned over to his parents with only minor injuries.
