Chattanooga firefighters managed to successfully rescue a mother and her young daughter on Tuesday at a home in the 200 block of Glendale Drive, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.
A tree had fallen on the home at the base of Signal Mountain and trapped the two family members under its weight on a bed.
Firefighters arrived from working in a tornado affected area to stabilize the tree and the floor underneath it. They shored the floor from the basement, so they could lift the tree up enough to slide the mother and daughter out. The extrication process took about 30 minutes, according to CFD Public Information Officer Lindsey Young.
The relatives were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
"The crews worked together and did a wonderful job, even before additional equipment arrived," Captain David Tallent said in the release.
