July 6, 2021
Two contractors were injured—one seriously—when they became trapped after a vacant three-story rowhouse under construction partially collapsed.

Two contractors were rescued by Baltimore City firefighters when they were trapped inside a rowhouse under construction that collapsed Tuesday, the department said.

The incident happened in just after 10:30 a.m. as work was being done on  vacant three-story building on the east side of the city, according to an online update by the Baltimore City Fire Department. The contractors were working on separate floors at the time of the collapse, and they were trapped in the wreckage when crews arrived, WBAL-TV reports.

When the second floor gave way, a contractor fell to the basement and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A contractor working near the first floor's chimney was struck by falling debris and suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Building inspectors were called in, and the cause of the collapse is under investigation.
