A man was rescued early Monday from the Detroit River by firefighters, officials said.

He was taken to a hospital, they said.

Detroit fire officials said dispatchers received a 911 call at about 3:30 a.m. Monday about a man in the river and yelling for help.

Corey McIsaac, a Detroit Fire Department spokeswoman, said the call came from the U.S. Post Office on West Fort Street near 8th Street.

McIsaac said there weren't further details about the man.

Firefighters aboard a department fireboat pulled the man from the water, according to authorities. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and the U.S. Coast Guard were also in the area to provide support, officials said.
