CA Firefighters Rescue Two in Head-On Collision

Dec. 29, 2020
Occupants of a van and sedan in the wreckage of a head-on collision in Rincon were pulled out by CAL FIRE San Diego firefighters.

A head-on crash left two injured people trapped in vehicles Monday night on state Route 76 in Rincon before firefighters freed them and medics took them to hospitals, authorities said.

It happened around 6:05 p.m. near the roundabout where SR-76 meets Valley Center Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and CAL FIRE San Diego. Details of how the crash occurred were not immediately available.

The collision involved a van and a sedan, according to CAL FIRE San Diego Capt. Thomas Shoots.

One occupant in each vehicle was trapped until CAL FIRE crews could free them, Shoots said. Medics took both to hospitals in ambulances.

The severity of their injuries was not clear, but Shoots said firefighters did not need to perform CPR on either individual.

SR-76 was expected to remain closed in both directions until at least 8 p.m.
