Maryland Heights firefighters were conducting ice rescue training when it turned into a real-world rescue of two teens from Creve Coeur Lake.

Firefighters with the Maryland Heights Fire Protection District were conducting ice rescue training on Creve Coeur Lake when it turned into a real-life rescue with two teens who fell through the icde.

As firefighters were wrapping up their training evolution, a deputy chief notice two teens running across the ice. Within 15 seconds of seeing them, the ice broke, and they fell into the frigid water, according to KSDK.

The remaining crews quickly went into rescue mode and requested additional resources to the scene. The initial crew of four rescuers were able to quickly access the victims and remove them to safety.

The teens were located approximately 350 feet from shore, officials said.

When the victims were back on the ground, they were in early stages of hypothermia.
