Three Missing after Tugboat, Smaller Vessel Collide in River in Southwestern Pennsylvania
A search resumed this morning for three people missing after a collision between a private vessel and a tugboat in the Monongahela River in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Two others aboard the smaller boat were flown to a hospital for treatment after the 9 p.m. collision, KDKA reported.
"Right now, we have divers that are going to be entering the water to check the wreckage and look for any type of victims or anything that they can recover. We've been doing air searches as well, since we got here. We've also been doing some side-scan sonar on the river, checking for anything that we can find," explained Jim Bittner, who heads the Fayette County Swift Water Rescue Team.
The Maryland State Police has joined the search effort.
