Fort Worth, TX, Firefighter with Terminal Cancer Searching for Kidney Donor to Save Wife's Life

During his battle with terminal cancer, Fort Worth Firefighter Todd Brook's focus is on his wife, and searching for a kidney donor as she suffers from a slowly progressing kidney failure.

A Fort Worth firefighter with terminal cancer has been pleading for help to get his wife a kidney as the both fight for their lives.

Before the stage four diagnosis, Todd Brook, with 30 years on the job, was planning to donate a kidney to his wife, Jennifer, who has been battling slowly progressing kidney failure, Fox4News reports.

"My kidneys are functioning at 22 percent right now," Jennifer said. "UT Southwestern is where I go, and you’re not eligible for a transplant unless you’re at 20 percent. But my doctors wanted me to go ahead and get through the process. They put me on the list."

Despite the terminal cancer, Todd’s focus has always been on his wife. He asked his department for help and requested a media interview in hopes of raising awareness to find her a new kidney donor.

Sadly, amid his fight, Todd has recently become unresponsive.

"He responds some. He’ll squeeze my hand or lift an eyebrow, and you know he hears us. As soon as I asked him if he still wanted me to do the interview, it was like an apparent yes," Jennifer said. "So, he’s still fighting. This is what he wanted. He’s the one who called out and said, ‘Can you guys get it out there?’"

"I feel like that’s Todd,” Craig Trojecek, a spokesman for the Fort Worth Fire Department, said. “Todd was always about everybody else.”
