Atlantic City Firefighter Burned at Suspicious Blaze

Oct. 23--ATLANTIC CITY -- A two-alarm fire that heavily damaged an unoccupied home and injured one firefighter on Indiana Avenue Tuesday night has been ruled suspicious.
Firefighters responded to the three-story home at 328 N. Indiana Ave around 5:40 p.m. and saw smoke and flames and immediately called for a second alarm, Fire Chief Brooks said.
Brooks said the injured firefighter suffered burns to his hand and face while making entry to the building with a hose line. He was treated and released at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus, Brooks said. He declined to release the identity of the firefighter.
The building had boarded up windows and appeared unoccupied. Brooks said the fire was ruled suspicious because the utilities to the building had been turned off.
Brooks estimated the damage to the building at $70,000 and said the fire also damaged a neighboring property at 326 N. Indiana Ave.
It took the 35 firefighters at the scene nearly a half hour to bring the fire under control
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Brooks said.
