N.J. Chief Recovering After Collapsing at Scene

Mantoloking Fire Chief Larry Gilman collapsed while crews battled a house fire.

A fire chief was revived after collapsing at a house fire in Mantoloking Saturday night.

Fire crews found the home on Channel Lane well involved when they arrived just before 6:30 p.m. The home is located on a barrier island. 

Mantoloking Fire Chief Larry Gilman collapsed at the scene and is currently in stable condition in the ICU at Brick Hospital, according to a release from the Mantoloking Fire Company.

Additional firefighters from Bay Head, Brick, Point Pleasant Beach and Borough and South Wall responded to help contain the blaze.

A Bay Head firefighter was also injured and released from Brick Hospital after treatment.
