A VA assistant chief injured during a water rescue last week remains in critical condition.

Eagle Rock Asst. Chief R. Alan Wright was pulled under by swift water while participating in a rescue of a family stranded by high water, according to WFIR.

Fellow firefighters pulled Wright from the water, and performed CPR. He was transported to a local hospital, and then transferred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, the station reported.

"His family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from his brothers and sisters from the fire service, as well as family and community members," reporters noted.
