FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro added the names of 17 firefighters, who died of illnesses related to their work in the World Trade Center, to the memorial wall.
There are now 127 FDNY firefighters' names on the WTC Memorial Wall in fire headquarters in Brooklyn.
“The number of those the FDNY has lost to the terrorist act of Sept. 11 continues to grow year after year, from 343 brave members that tragic day, to now 127 members who bravely battled illnesses directly related to their selfless work,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. “Remembering these heroes, and never forgetting their sacrifice, is one of the FDNY’s most important traditions.”
The inscription on the World Trade Center Memorial Wall reads: “Dedicated to the memory of those who bravely served this Department protecting life and property in the City of New York in the rescue and recovery effort at Manhattan BOX 5-5-8087 WORLD TRADE CENTER”
