WINCHENDON — A firefighter was taken by helicopter to the hospital after a medical emergency during an ice rescue training exercise on Lake Dennison, the fire department said in a Facebook post.

The post did not identify the department the firefighter was from or what the medical emergency entailed.

The post said the fire department was conducting a multi-agency ice rescue training on Lake Dennison when, after one of the "practical evolutions" a member of a neighboring department "suffered a medical emergency and was immediately treated on scene."

"The individual was then transported conscious and alert to a landing zone, where he was then transferred via Life Flight to a medical facility," the post reads. "Original reports of a drowning or traumatic injury involving (Department of Conservation and Recreation) personnel were incorrect. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and department for a speedy recovery."
