An Allenton firefighter was airlifted to a hospital after being struck by a vehicle at a fire scene.

An Allenton firefighter working at a brush fire was struck by a vehicle and airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.

Firefighters from multiple departments were working at a brush fire when the Allenton firefighter was struck as he was standing on the side of the road, WMBF News reported.

Robeson County Fire Marshal Stephanie Chavis said heavy smoke in the area decreased visibility for those driving near the brush fire.

The firefighter reportedly suffered leg fractures, abdominal injuries, and possible head trauma, according to Chavis.

On their Facebook page the Allenton Fire Department said, “Tonight we ask for your prayers for one of our own. We ask that you also remember the family and the members of our Fire Department for the days to come in such a troubling time.”
