Burlington fire officials said crews were lowering a patient from the roof to the ground when the outbuilding collapsed.

Six responders were injured when an outbuilding collapsed as they were treating a patient.

As Burlington and Whitsett firefighters and Guilford County EMS crews were providing care and attempting to lower the patient to the ground, the structure collapsed, according to a statement posted by Burlington fire officials.

Personnel on the scene immediately provided treatment and additional resources were dispatched.

The firefighters and their patient were transported to hospitals with what appear to be non-life-threatening injures, officers said.

The cause of the collapse of the building under construction continues.
