    A volunteer fire police officer is recovering from injuries suffered when he was hit by a vehicle Saturday evening.

    Blades Fire Police Capt. Bobby Wingate was struck as he was directing traffic on Sussex Highway near where an earlier crash occurred, according to the department's Facebook page. 

    The original crash involved a vehicle flipped onto its side in a ditch.
