Chicago fire officials say a firefighter was seriously injured in a structure fire Sunday.
Firefighters were called to the fire at 1225 North Lavergne around 4:30 p.m. During the fire, a mayday was transmitted, according to tweets from the Chicago Fire Department Twitter account.
A follow-up tweet said the firefighter, who is listed to be in their 30s, was West Suburban Hospital before being transferred to Loyola Medical Center.
Late Sunday, the fire department tweeted that the firefighter was in critical but stable condition.
According to NBC Chicago, the fire was in an apartment building in the city's Austin neighborhood.
