A mayday was called when a Chicago firefighter went down on the roof of a house fire in the Humboldt Park neighborhood Wednesday morning.
Crews were battling a fire that engulfed a 2 1/2-story home when the firefighter suffered a heat-related injury.
"When you hear a May Day across the radio, that's the worst thing we want to hear, right now," Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner Donald Walker told ABC 7 Chicago.
A second firefighter suffered a cut during the fire. Both firefighters were sent to the hospital and officials said the injuries were not life-threatening.
A neighbor rescued an elderly occupant from the home as it quickly filled with smoke.
