Mobile Fire Rescue Captain Joe O'Connor, seriously injured in a fall from a roof at a fire Saturday night, remains hospitalized.
"Thanks to O'Connor's amazing work ethic and impressive conditioning to stay in great shape for his career, doctors are cautiously optimistic that he may be able to avoid extensive surgeries for repairs," Mobile fire officials said on the department's Facebook page.
He sustained several spinal fractures and broken ribs.
