A driver with previous alcohol-related driving convictions was sentenced to six months in jail in connection with a crash that killed a New York firefighter last year.

In July, Joseph Bellows, 55, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, WIVT reported.

Last summer, the apparatus hit low-hanging wires knocked loose when Bellows' vehicle hit a utility pole. As East Branch Third Assistant Fire Chief Jason McGlone, 51, exited the truck and touched the metal door, he was electrocuted. 

Despite treatment, McGlone could not be revived.

District Attorney Shawn Smith, who said Bellows had four previous drinking and driving convictions, requested the maximim sentence of two-and-a-third to seven years.

But, Judge John Hubbard gave him six months in the county jail and five years of probation.
