Jack Daniel’s Celebrates First Responders with Special Motorcycle Sweepstakes
To celebrate the hard work, commitment and bravery of all firefighters and EMS first responders, Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniel’s are hosting a sweepstakes only open to these service members. Bike #001 of the Jack Daniel’s Limited Edition Indian Scout Bobber line of motorcycles will be awarded to the winner.
For the third year, the two American brands have joined forces with Klock Werks Kustom Cycles of Mitchell, SD, to celebrate their shared values with a limited-edition motorcycle. This year, they looked to the Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade and its gold and black fire trucks for design inspiration.
Each bike in the line will come with a commemorative fireman’s axe, which will be engraved with the owner’s name, motorcycle number (#001–#177) and VIN. Each bike will be built to order with delivery starting in August 2018.
Participants can enter to win bike #001 at a variety of events this year, including Firehouse Expo in Nashville, TN, in October.
During the stated promotion periods above, entrees must complete an online form sent via text-to-win (text FIREBRIGADE to 47464) or via this URL: http://bit.ly/2Ga9rWX.
Austin, O'Neill Receive CFSI Lankford Award
The Congressional Fire Services Institute’s (CFSI) Board of Directors selected Steve Austin and Tony O’Neill as the co-recipients of the 2018 CFSI/Motorola Solutions Mason Lankford Fire Service Leadership Award. The presentation will take place at the 30th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner on April 19 at the Washington Hilton, in Washington, DC.
Both Austin and O’Neill were among a core group of fire service officials who were actively involved in the establishment of CFSI in 1989 and have maintained active roles over the last 30 years. Both served as chairs of the CFSI National Advisory Committee (NAC), with Austin holding the distinction as the only four-term chair. Their success as NAC chairs was attributed to their abilities to develop consensus among NAC members on a broad range of fire service issues. Beyond their roles as NAC chair, Austin and O’Neill have served in many other capacities within CFSI, including members of the CFSI Kitchen Cabinet, a small group of former NAC chairs who meet regularly to provide guidance and support to the CFSI staff.
“Steve Austin and Tony O’Neill are two strong pillars who have provided invaluable support to CFSI since day one,” said CFSI President Bill Jenaway. “On the national level, the two of them have contributed in many other ways to advance the health and safety of our nation’s fire service throughout their distinguished careers. The CFSI Board of Directors takes great pride in recognizing these leaders for their lifetimes of achievements on behalf of the fire and emergency services.”

Applications Being Accepted for 2018 Globe Gear Giveaway
The application period for the 2018 Globe Gear Giveaway is now open. Globe by MSA, DuPont Protection Solutions and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) are teaming up for the seventh year to provide turnout gear to volunteer fire departments. This year, a total 13 departments will each receive four sets of new gear, for a total of 52 sets. The first 500 applicants will also receive a one-year NVFC membership, courtesy of Globe.
“Many volunteer fire departments do not have sufficient budgets to properly outfit their members with life-saving gear,” said NVFC chair Kevin D. Quinn. “We are grateful to Globe and DuPont for supporting our volunteer fire service through the annual Globe Gear Giveaway to better protect our boots on the ground.”
Globe, which is now part of the MSA family, and DuPont have provided 402 sets to a total of 82 departments since 2012.
“The mission of MSA and Globe is to help men and women work in safety so that they, their families, and their communities may live in health throughout the world,” said Globe integration director and business lead Tom Vetras. “Our volunteer firefighters deserve nothing less than the very best personal protective equipment.”
John Richard, global business director, DuPont Protection Solutions, added, “It is important to ensure that these brave volunteer firefighters have gear they can count on so they can focus on their job and communities, while having confidence that their gear will perform and help protect them.”
To be eligible to apply for the Globe Gear Giveaway, departments must meet the following criteria:
- Be all-volunteer or mostly-volunteer (over 50 percent)
- Serve a population of 25,000 or less
- Be located in the U.S. or Canada and legally organized under state/province law
- Demonstrate a need for the gear
- Department or person applying must be a member of the NVFC. To help departments meet the membership criteria, Globe will provide a complimentary NVFC Membership to the first 500 applicants.
