The deadline is nearing for two FEMA grant programs.
The application period for the COVID-19 supplemental component of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program ends at 5 p.m. EDT on May 15. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants' application period has been extended to May 27 at 5 p.m. EDT.
Open to eligible fire departments, non-affiliated EMS agencies and state fire training academies, the COVID-19 supplement offers financial assistance for critical personal protective equipment and supplies needed to prevent and respond to the global pandemic. According to FEMA, $100 million is available through this program.
SAFER grants also are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase the number of trained "front line" firefighters available in their communities. For this year's AFG program, $345 million has been allocated to support SAFER grants.
Go to FEMA's website for more information about the grants, as well as the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The website also has information about other programs aimed at the fire service, such as the Fire Prevention and Safety Grants initiatives.
