The 3M Scott Air-Pak XD SCBA and 3M Scott Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA have been certified to the most recent National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1970, 2025 Edition standard, according to a statement released by 3M Scott Fire & Safety. An crucial step toward improving SCBA performance and safety for the fire department has been taken with this certification.

Several heritage standards are combined into a single framework for protective ensembles, including SCBAs, by the NFPA 1970 standard. Achieving compliance shows that the Air-Pak XD SCBA and Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA satisfy strict safety, testing, design, and operational reliability standards.

A regulation change to the End-of-Service-Time Indicator (EOSTI) is the main upgrade to both SCBA models. It modifies the low-air alarm set point to better reflect the rated cylinder volume and include the necessary correction factor for the incompressibility of air at high pressure.

Fire departments can now choose a certified breathing apparatus that suits their operational requirements and preferences thanks to certifications on the Air-Pak XD SCBA and Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA.

“Securing NFPA 1970 certification for both the Air-Pak XD and X3 Pro SCBA models reinforces our commitment to delivering dependable, high-performance respiratory protection for the fire service,” said John Graves, NFPA SCBA global product marketer for 3M. “By offering two certified SCBA models, we are providing fire departments with meaningful choices backed by trusted technology and rigorous compliance.”

Features of the Air-Pak XD SCBA

  • A rugged wireformed backframe is designed for better usability, durability, and serviceability while maintaining a low-profile appearance.
  • A low-profile SCBA that reduces obstacles when operating in confined locations
  • Wireless SCBA telemetry with enhanced penetration into buildings and longer range is available with SEMS 3.0.

Features of the Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA

  • The backframe made of aluminum alloy is lightweight and strong enough to endure the demands of the fireground.
  • Snap-Change cylinder connections increase cylinder charging efficiency and enable quick cylinder replacement.
  • For enhanced accountability and communication, SEMS II Pro provides electronic personnel accountability reports (ePAR) and wireless SCBA telemetry.

With its "As Long As You Own It" warranty, improved cleanability, and redundant safety measures, the Air-Pak XD and Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA versions provide firefighters with peace of mind.

“Our latest certification for the Air-Pak XD and Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA is a testament of our dedication to provide innovative, reliable respiratory protection for firefighters and first responders,” said Jason Cannon, 3M fire segment marketer, U.S. and Canada. “We are confident that the features and benefits, proven design, and robust warranty offered by the XD and X3 Pro will exceed the needs of customers evaluating new breathing apparatus certified to the latest NFPA 1970 standard.”
