Dallas Firefighter Injured by Burning Debris Leaves Hospital

Dallas Fire Capt. Ronald J. Janek suffered significant back and foot injuries, as well as minor burns on his neck, after he was struck by part of a building that collapsed while battling a commercial blaze.

A Dallas firefighter who was injured when part of a burning building collapsed on him was released from the hospital Sunday.

Capt. Ronald J. Janek was taken to the hospital in stable condition with significant back and foot injuries, as well as minor burns on his neck, after he was struck by debris while battling a commercial fire. He left the hospital at around 1 p.m., surrounded by family members, KTVT-TV reports.

“(Janek) and his family maintains their position relative to their wishes for privacy, but are overwhelmed by the show of support from people in and out of the fire service, as well as the local news media, and wish to extend their undiluted gratitude,” Dallas Fire-Rescue said in a statement.
