Three California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were injured while working an accident scene on the 105 Freeway when a vehicle slammed into the back a patrol vehicle causing a fire.
The CHP vehicle was stopped in a lane of the freeway blocking traffic from an earlier accident when it was rear-ended.
"CHP had the lane closed with flares out, the driver applied no brakes and went straight into the CHP car, all four wheels off the ground," witness Robert Martinez told CBS News Los Angeles. "That car flipped, CHP stood on the ground. And shortly after is when the CHP car went up in flames."
Officials said the Downey Fire Department transported two officers to a local hospital for treatment, the third officer injured was transported prior to the fire department's arrival.
