Two medics with Austin-Travis County EMS were injured after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended their ambulance.
"While they were rendering care to the patient in the back of the ambulance, a reported drunk driver rear ended them at a relatively high rate of speed," PIO Cpt. Christa Stedman told Fox7.
Stedman said the ambulance's lights were activated as it was hit by the car that officials say was going about 50 mph.
"We got lucky in this one. One of the paramedics that was in the back of the ambulance was actually just about to get out the back door of the ambulance, so if this accident happened even a split second later, we'd probably be having a much different conversation," said Cpt. Stedman.
With crowds descending on Austin for the festival, she encourages drivers to move over and slow down if they see an emergency vehicle along the road.
