The son of a fallen Chicago firefighter arrived at school in a fire truck Wednesday morning.
It was the first day back to school without his father for Jared Pelt, 7, WGN reported.
He was cheered on by his father’s fellow firefighters as he entered the Hazel Crest school
Jermaine Pelt, 49, died from smoke inhalation in April after fighting a blaze in West Pullman. He served with the fire department for 18 years.
Pelt had walked his daughter down the aisle at her wedding just five months before he gave the ultimate sacrifice.
In addition to being a firefighter, he was a paramedic and nurse.
