A Maury County firefighter recalled the moments after his colleague fell through a floor at a house fire near Columbia last week.
Firefighters said they entered the home when they found cars in the driveway and a walker on the front porch, and that's when a firefighter fell partially through the floor, with fire encroaching on his leg.
“He tapped me on my leg once he had already fell through the hole, and he said, ‘Call for a mayday,'” Corey Fields told WKRN.com. “I didn’t think to grab for my radio. I just yelled, ‘Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!’ Then I started my efforts to pull him out of the hole,”
The firefighter's legs were trapped in the floor and Fields, who has been with the department five years, was able to pull him out despite his awkward position.
The firefighter's helmets were later shown to the television station and they suffered extensive heat damage.
