Former Chief Greg Fredrick said he was honored that the tower bears his name.

Louisville's burn building  is named for former Chief Greg Fredrick.

The new $1.4 million burn building will allow firefighters and other responders prepare for various types of incidents,

”It has a lot of the conditions that are similar to the types of buildings that you will find throughout Old Louisville, West Louisville, Butchertown and areas like that,” Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neil told WAVE3.

The facility features a U-shaped courtyard with five different burn rooms, a wireless smoke machine and a temperature monitoring system to help them simulate the environments.

While he is honored to have the facility named after him, Fredrick lauded the women and men who put their lives on the line each day.

”Training has always been a major focus of our department and it’s vital to our firefighters. Having a great facility to train in just makes the job so much better,” he said.
