Durabook Unveils R12 Rugged Tablet Active Edge AI Platform
The R12 Rugged Tablet Active Edge AI platform was unveiled by Durabook. The R12 Rugged Tablet offers outstanding processing power with improved AI performance, energy efficiency and multitasking capacity thanks to the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 CPU. Teams from the defense, public safety and industrial sectors that operate from trucks or in remote locations with erratic connectivity will find it ideal.
The platform is designed for demanding edge AI workloads, with the capability for up to 412 TOPS of total AI compute. 180 TOPS of integrated AI performance can process data locally from cameras, sensors and linked systems, assisting teams in information analysis and decision-making. An extra 232 TOPS discrete GPU that can generate up to 412 TOPS can increase the R12's integrated AI power. Users may execute sophisticated AI inference, computer vision and mission-critical software-enabled AI applications right at the edge thanks to this scalable architecture.
The optional dedicated NVIDIA RTXTM 2000 Ada graphics, which provide energy-efficient workstation-class graphics performance to this fully rugged tablet for demanding visual and compute-intensive applications like architectural visualization and digital content creation, is a distinctive and important benefit of the R12 tablet.
With its 12.2-inch DynaVue sunlight readable display and brightness of up to 1,200 nits, the R12 Rugged Tablet gives users the room and clarity they need to work with maps, imagery, sensor outputs and many information layers. This is housed in a chassis that is smaller than the 11.6-inch tablets that are currently on the market. The R12 allows users to switch between touch-based field work and tasks that require a keyboard without switching devices when linked with a detachable illuminated keyboard.
“Rugged, powerful, and mission-ready, this Durabook tablet is taking its rightful place supporting AI at the edge for professionals in the field,” said Sasha Wang, president, Durabook Americas. “The R12 Rugged Tablet enables a clearer view of information in mobile, space-constrained, or disconnected environments.”
The R12 tablet is built to receive data, including 4K video and 8K information, from cameras, sensors and connected systems, process it locally and facilitate faster decision-making even in the event of inconsistent connectivity. High-speed 2.5GbE LAN, Thunderbolt 4, USB, 4G/5G, the uncommon choice of up to two RJ-45 ports and expansion options for specially designed setups are just a few of the connectivity options available on the R12.
With advanced security features like TPM 2.0 as standard, a 5.0 MP IR camera for Windows Hello with dynamic shutter design, a 13 MP rear camera with dynamic shutter design, a Windows 11 Secured-core PC, a quick-release SSD and a fingerprint scanner, the R12 is safeguarded in a constantly changing mobile work environment.
The R12's dual easy-removable battery architecture with optional hot-swappable, high-capacity battery technology is another unique feature that helps field users avoid downtime. Its battery lasts up to twenty hours.
The R12 Rugged Tablet is designed for use in situations where durability and performance must coexist, such as in manufacturing, public safety, defense or field service. It has been shown to be resistant to drops, shocks, vibration, dust, and extremely high temperatures. The tablet satisfies IP66, MIL-STD-810H, 6-foot drop and MIL-STD-461G electromagnetic compatibility requirements. Additionally, it has received ANSI/UL C1D2 certification for use in specific hazardous sites in the oil and gas, petrochemical, industrial and other industries with potentially explosive atmospheres.
