A firefighter in a small southern Pennsylvania town was hospitalized when the apparatus he was driving overturned on its way to a house fire.
The Chambersburg Public Opinion reports that the incident happened just before midnight on Sunday in Metal Township about 20 minutes after the Metal Township Fire Company was called to a fire in the area.
Police said the driver of the engine veered off the right side of the road, causing the apparatus to overturn.
Metal Township Fire Chief Dale Hall said the driver had left the station in a rescue truck shortly after another vehicle and that he was the only one inside at the time.
Fannett-Metal Fire Company was the first to arrive on scene and crews were able to get the driver out of the truck and into an ambulance. The driver was taken to Meritus Medical Center for treatment and as of Monday afternoon was still in the ICU awaiting tests, according to the chief.
