Woman Killed in Collision with DE Ambulance on Way to Call
An 85-year-old woman was killed when her car collided with a Delaware ambulance that was responding to an emergency Wednesday.
The accident involving a Claymont Fire Company ambulance happened just after 9 a.m. at an intersection in the Highland Woods area, New Castle County police stated in an online update. The ambulance was headed to a call with its lights and siren on when it collided with a car pulling onto the road.
First responders began treating the car's driver, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Two EMS workers in the ambulance were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.
In a statement, the fire company said the accident would not interrupt service. No details were released concerning the amount of damage the ambulance sustained.
New Castle County police are continuing to investigate the accident.
